Workshops

Each spring, I offer Inviting Native Plants, an opportunity for participants to explore a woodland garden and learn to identify a number of spring ephemerals and other Piedmont natives. I’ll share resources for identifying and growing natives and strategies for controlling invasive species.

Our other workshop, Creating a Habitat Garden, is designed for those who want to establish their own Homegrown Habitat. We’ll talk about the elements needed to create a landscape that supports insects, birds, and other wildlife while also meeting the needs of the human inhabitants. Participants will see native plants in a garden setting and learn strategies for creating their own sustainable and maintainable plantings.

Workshops are conducted outdoors at Swiftbrook Gardens near Lake Wheeler and include hands-on activities. They are suitable for those new to the Triangle and novice gardeners, as well as those with more experience.  Participants should dress in comfortable attire appropriate for outdoor activities.
